DEPARTMENT OF RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

 

        History of the Russian language is closely connected with the formation of KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov.
Over the years, the department has been led  by senior teacher Breusova K.E. (1950-1975), associate professor Sudakova A.I. (1975-1986), Professor Tlegenova S.E. (1986-2007), and the department was named: «The department of Russian and Kazakh languages”, The Department of Russian language as a foreign one», «The Department of Russian language with the course of general theoretical subjects,» «Department of language training.»

        Among the first members of the department who participated in its development, Smirnova A.G., Musatova V.V., Shakenova O.B., Podkotilova L.S., Sadiyeva V.G. Invaluable contribution to the training of future doctors was made by teachers of Latin language Te R.B., Georgiadi V.G., Vasilchenko V.N., Galiyeva V.A., Abulkhairova N.U., Zhantasova S.U., who made educational and methodological basis in Latin language for students of high medical schools: 4 standards and working programs (1999;2002), 7 textbooks and collection of testing tasks.

        Since 1983 the teachers of the department taught Russian language to foreign students. During this period there were published numerous teaching manuals, methodic guidelines, collections of texts and exercises, prepared by the staff of the department (Tlegenova S.E., Podkotilova L.S., Seksenalinova J.J., Lazaridi E.I., Kaimova D.B., Iskakova N.A., Lutkovskaya T.V., Berdalieyva T.K. etc.). Foreign students always won prizes at the annual competitions in Russian language (Moscow, Almaty). At present students from Afghanistan study at the preparatory department of KazNMU.

         The department conducts a great educational work: meetings, excursions, Russian song and readers contest, etc.

         Members of the department regularly participate in international, national and inter-university conferences in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Yerevan, Lvov, Belgorod, Tashkent, Andijan, Bishkek etc.

         The work of department teachers is deservedly awarded by the university administration: senior teacher Lazaridi E.I. was awarded by the badge «Excellent worker of Public health of the Republic of Kazakhstan»; many teachers were repeatedly awarded with diplomas.

        Since November 2009, the Russian language department has been headed by doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, academician of International Academy of sciences of pedagogical education (Moscow, Russia) ZhanpeisU.A.is the author of the existing programs and textbooks on Russian language for 5,7,10-gradesof schools with Kazakh language teaching.

         Nowadays, a scientific direction of the department is researching the problems of professionally-oriented teaching of Russian language in the conditions of credit system of education. The main objective of PTS is the formation of the communicative competence, the ability to solve by means of Russian communicative tasks the main areas and types of speech activity and use of scientific literature in the specialty for obtaining information leading to the formation of professional competence.

Professor Zhanpeis U.A. — Head of Russian Language department

          Zhanpeis Ultai Akhmetzhanovna

        She was born in January 19, 1955 in the city of Kyzylorda. Kazakh.

She graduated from the philological faculty of KazPI named after Abai with honors in 1976, was a teacher of Russian language and literature, JRW, SRW of SRIPS named after Y.Altynsarin.
In 1985 she has defended her candidate’s thesis on methods of teaching Russian language. Since 1987 –senior teacher, associate professor, head of methods of teaching Russian language and literature department of KazNPU named after Abai.

        In 1999 she has defended doctoral thesis in specialty 13.00.02 — Theory and method of teaching and education (Russian language in primary, secondary and higher education). From 1997-2005she was a head of the theory and practice of teaching Russian language and literature department, from 2005-2009-professor of KazNPU named after Abai.

         In November 2009 she was elected by competition as a head of Russian language department of KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov.

         Doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, academician of International Academy of sciences of pedagogical education Zhanpeis U.A. has more than 200 scientific publications: monographs, textbooks, standard programs, manuals, working outs, educational dictionaries. She has trained 28 candidates and 3 doctors of pedagogical sciences, not only for institutions of higher education, but also to other countries: South Korea, Germany. Zhanpeis U.A. was awarded the title of «Leading scientist of Republic Kazakhstan» (2005) for her great contribution to the development of Kazakhstan linguodidactics.

       «Kazakh-Russian thematic dictionary» (2011), «Russian-Korean thematic dictionary» (2001),the manuals «Methods of teaching Russian language in the modules» (2005), «Method for studying lexica and phraseology of Russian Language» (2006), «Methods of study in morphemic and derivation of Russian language » (2007) are successfully used in higher education system, textbooks «Russian language – 1», «Russian language – 2» for medical institutions.

         She is an author of new textbooks for secondary schools with Kazakh and Uighur languages ​​of teaching: «Russian speech for the 5th grade» (2000, 2005). «Russian speech for the 7thgrade” (2012).»The Russian language for the 10thgrade of public-humanitarian direction» (2006-2010).»The Russian language course for the 10th grade of natural and mathematic direction» (2010).

         Professor Zhanpeis U.A. is a manager of the project for 12 years studying Russian language, a member of the editorial board of scientific-methodic magazine «Russian literature at school.»

         She was awarded the medal «Honored worker of education of the Republic of Kazakhstan» (2005). For the Russian language department of KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov she has prepared two candidates: c.p.s. Ozekbayeva N.A., c.p.s. Darkembayeva R.D.

       Ospanova Zhanat Aikhimovna born in guly 5, 1970 in Chilik  village Almaty oblast. Kazakh. She  graduated from philological faculty of Kazakh stule women pedagogical institute in 1994, she worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature.

In 2017 she was admitted to KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov as a teacher of Russian language and literature.

From 2011-2012 academic year she is a head of studies of Russian language department.

EDUCATIONAL — METHODICAL WORK  OF  THE  DEPARTMENT

 

           Innovative educational-methodic activity of the department is to provide a methodologically grounded educational strategies and tactics of professionally-oriented competence of students in learning the Russian language in a modernized system of medical education focused on the simultaneous formation and development of linguistic (cognitive), speech (operational), communicative (axiological) and legal competence, and competence in the field of self-development of students’ educational and professional activities. In order to optimize the educational process and the implementation of competence-based approach to professional-oriented training Russian language, the teachers widely use interactive methods that encourage active student’s speech activity in the communication process, reflecting the cognitive interests and needs of students with regard to their future profession. Innovative methods and ways of teaching allow to realize the aims and objectives of discipline in accordance with the current requirements of the competency approach of teaching in high medical school. At practical lessons the teachers introduce the technologies to develop the critical thinking of students on the basis of the texts in the specialty, the cluster method; improve the system of interactive teaching methods and forms (practice lesson, exercise-training, communicative training” for realization of a competence-based approach to a language teaching profession.

           Forms of methods were borrowed, but worked out by prof. Zhanpeis U.A. within the discipline of «Russian language» with taking into account the medical profession and the development of 5-core competencies of baccalaureate students.

Technology of development of critical thinking is grounded in the article «On the methodological strategies for teaching Russian language in medical school.» (Materials  of ISPC «Көптілдік білімберу: инновациялық технологиялар және жетілдіру жолдары»). There is an act of implementation.

          The technology is used in the teaching process in order to create professional-oriented communicative competence, which significantly increases the level of cognitive-linguistic and operational-speech skills of students in educational and professional sphere of communication.

          Cluster method is also developed to meet the specifics studying Russian language in non-linguistic university. Methodological grounding of use of cluster method was published in the paper «On the cluster method of investigating medical terminology on the lessons of Russian language» (Materials of ISPC «Model of KazNMU medical education: Preliminary results, problems and prospects»). A cluster allow to acquire important logical, syntagmatic, paradigmatic and derivational connections of medical terms, which encourages speech and apprehensive activity, since their content is built with the future careers of students, and allows the formation of the communicative competence of students on a motivational basis.

Professionally-oriented communicative training, methodologically grounded by Ph.D., prof. Zhanpeis U.A. in the article «On organization of various types of professionally oriented communicative raining at practical lessons of Russian language» (Materials of RSPC «Медицина білімі-мемлекеттік тіл аясында») is widely used at the practical lessons.

The use of innovative methods significantly increases the effectiveness of teaching Russian language, contributes to the establishment and development of basic types of competence.

Russian Language department is provided with all teaching materials in accordance with SCES: working programs, syllabuses for all faculties of the 1stcourse in the following specialties: general medicine, stomatology, public health, medico-prophylactic business, technology of pharmaceutical manufacture, nursing business, management.

Practical exercises and office hours are conducted on a modular system:

The 1stmodule — «An introduction to the Russian language»

The 2ndmodule — «Functional styles of speech»

The 3d module — «Scientific text. Compression of scientific text»

The 4thmodule — «Culture of speech behavior in the professional field”.

            Assessment of learning progress of students (100-point scale) on a 5-core competencies are usually recorded in a training register. The register is structured into sections of «knowledge», «skills», «communicative skills», «legal competence», «independent work of a student».

Legal competence is assessed in the first lessons of 4 lexical themes: «The language and its basic functions», «Republic of Kazakhstan», «Medical Education in Kazakhstan.» «The law and the right in medicine.» Self-development competence is assessed for the semester by types of independent work of a student.

The thematic plan of students’ independent work includes themes, content of  tasks, forms of performing IWS and the number of hours per each theme. The evaluation criteria of IWS is presented in syllabus.

At the department there is a fund of electronic presentation variants of certain types of IWS due to the themes of syllabus. Students are given the opportunity to choose some forms of IWS and perform at a level that is acceptable to them, taking into account the formation of linguistic, speech and communicative competencies. These are forms of work, as report, notes, abstracts, essays, presentations, linguistic analysis of scientific text (the text in the chosen specialty), linguistic analysis of medical terminology and terminology dictionary, annotation, review, summary, conclusions, etc.

            Thus the department realizes of level approach in determining the various forms of IWS. The reproductive level includes such forms, which are focused on the processing, summaries, reproducing scientific information, compiling plan, abstracts, summaries, etc.

On a creative level, the students perform their independent work as follows: an essay on such topics as «Health resorts of Kazakhstan», «My future profession.» «Deontology.» «Medical Ethics»; presentations on the themes: «Discoveries of medical scientists», «Symbols and emblems of medicine», etc.
