Vivarium– is directly subordinate to the B. Atchabarov scientific- research institute of fundamental and applied medicine (B. Atchabarov SRI FAM) of the University, which is directly subordinate to the scientific-technological park of the University.
The main goals of the Vivarium are:
- Provision of the University’s scientific, educational, and commercial processes with experimental biomaterial;
- Creating conditions for educational, scientific, and experimental research on a commercial basis;
- Provision of the University’s scientific, educational, and commercial processes with experimental biomaterials in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the use of biomaterials for educational and scientific purposes, as well as in commercial activities, taking into account ethical standards and principles of humane treatment of animals;
- Creation and maintenance of conditions for keeping animals for conducting educational, scientific, and experimental research on a commercial basis, ensuring compliance with the requirements of quality, safety, and efficiency, promoting innovative development, and increasing the competitiveness of the results of scientific and educational activities of the University in the market of educational and scientific services.
Tasks and functions of the Vivarium:
- Ensuring compliance with bioethical rules for keeping and working with animals, strict implementation of standard operating procedures for experimental and laboratory research;
- Strengthening the position of the University as the leading scientific and educational center of the country, meeting international standards of scientific research based on the latest achievements of medical science and technology;
- Attracting students, undergraduates, doctoral students, young scientists to research work;
- Organizing training programs and seminars on the humane treatment of animals and methods of working with them;
- Preparation and provision of laboratory animals for educational, scientific, and commercial projects within the university, including the selection of species and breeds of animals in accordance with the goals and objectives of the experiments.
- Conducting briefings and training seminars for university students and staff on the rules of working with laboratory animals, including aspects of bioethics, safety, and humane treatment;
- Regular veterinary control and monitoring of animal health, taking measures to prevent diseases and providing adequate veterinary care;
- Accounting and documentation of information about the animal population, their health, conditions of detention and use in experiments, ensuring transparency and accessibility of data for control authorities;
- Creating conditions for the commercialization of the results of scientific and (or) scientific and technical activities in order to attract investment in the high-tech sector in practical healthcare, according to the approved Vivarium price list for laboratory animals.
