Postdoctoral fellowship is a form of postgraduate education that involves a set of research activities carried out by a scientist who has obtained a PhD or an equivalent degree and defended their dissertation no more than 6 years prior to admission. These activities aim to address scientific and applied problems on a specialized topic.

The goal of the postdoctoral fellowship is to train highly qualified scientific personnel to ensure the formation and continuity of scientific schools/institutes at KazNMU. Duration of study: 3 years

• Research work according to the individual work plan of the postdoctoral fellow
• Publication of at least 2 (two) articles based on the results of the first year, 2 (two) articles based on the results of the second year, and 3 (three) articles based on the results of the third year in journals with a non-zero impact factor indexed no lower than the third quartile according to Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science Core Collection) and indexed in the Scopus database at the 35th percentile or higher. If the journal in which the article is published belongs to the first quartile (Q1) in both the Scopus and Web of Science databases, one article counts as two.

• Step I: preliminary selection of applicants’ applications
• Step II: defense of the research plan and scientific activity at the Commission meeting

 As a result of the postdoctoral training, scientific, pedagogical, and managerial personnel will be prepared, ready to receive the academic title of «Associate Professor».

To participate in the competition within the specified period, applicants must submit the following documents to the Science Department of KazNMU:

1. For citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Identity card / Passport of the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

For foreigners and stateless persons: Residence permit / Stateless person’s ID / Refugee certificate;
For kandsas: Kandas certificate issued by local executive bodies;

2. Diploma of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). If the degree was obtained abroad, it is necessary to provide a certificate of recognition of the academic degree document in accordance with the Rules for Recognition of Educational Documents approved by the Order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 12, 2023, No. 268;
3. Certificate confirming English language proficiency:

IELTS Academic, minimum score – 5.5;
TOEFL ITP, minimum score – 460;
TOEFL IBT, minimum score – 46;

4. Competition application in the prescribed form;
5. Resume;
6. Abstract of the planned research;
7. Motivation letter (no more than 1000 characters) revealing specific skills required for participation in the project and work experience;
8. Individual work plan of the postdoctoral fellow indicating types of research activities and publications for the next three years;
9. Copies of the most significant and major publications in journals indexed by Web of Science / Scopus over the past three years;
10. Document confirming employment (labor book, employment contract, archival certificate, etc.);
11. Information on corruption offenses committed;
12. Certificate of presence or absence of information on the commission of a criminal offense.

• Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
• The results of the preliminary selection are admission or non-admission to participate in the postdoctoral competition.
• Enrollment in the postdoctoral program is carried out by the order of the Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNMU according to the planned number of places and based on the positive decision of the Postdoctoral Admission Commission.
