With the opening of the Medical Institute, military medical training for students was carried out to train reserve medical service officers.
In January 1938, the Military Department was established (Resolution of the SNK USSR dated November 10, 1937, and VKVSH on February 2, 1938). Sanitary and chemical defense and sanitary tactics were taught.
On February 16, 1939, the teaching of certain military medical disciplines was organized at the adjacent departments of the Institute. An office of military field surgery was organized at the Department of Hospital Surgery. The teaching of the toxicology of toxic substances was conducted at the Department of Pharmacology as an independent course.
The department received further development in the war and post-war periods. Since 1944, the department’s equipment has been replenished with the complete medical equipment of the regiment. The department was located in 5 rooms in the 2nd building.
Employees of the military department conducted mass defense and sports work at the institute. The military department during the war also took part in the work of OSOAVIAKHIM, later DOSAAF. Research work of defense significance was constantly conducted at the department.
Since its establishment, the Military Department has trained more than 47,500 reserve medical service officers. The department’s main task is to train reserve medical service officers for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Many graduates of the institute became military doctors and held responsible positions in the Armed Forces of the USSR (Colonel-General of the Medical Service, Professor Gaidar B.V., head of the Military Medical Academy; Major-General of the Medical Service, Dobrikov E.V., head of the medical service of the Southern Group of Troops; and Professor Polumiskov Y.M., head of the Department of the Military Medical Faculty at TSOLIUV).
Graduates of the military department of our university served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in senior positions. Among them were Major General of the Medical Service Nurmagambetov T.S., the first head of the Military Medical Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Colonel of the Medical Service Dubinin S.N., the first chief pharmacist of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and Colonel of the Medical Service Vysochin A.S., the first chief surgeon of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The first head of the military department was a military doctor of the 3rd rank, associate professor Vitaly Vasilyevich Chudinov.

Many university graduates who have received military medical training at the department perform their professional and military duties as doctors of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Among them: Colonel m/s Oshakbayev T.Zh., Colonel m/s Kalkayeva N.B., Lieutenant Colonel m/s Vasetsky A.N., lieutenant colonel m/s Savutov R.P., lieutenant colonel m/s Ashimov M.A., Major m/s Khasanov I.T., Major m/s Musatov V.V., and others.
Currently, at the military department of the university, headed by Colonel of the Reserve Medical Service Sybanbekuly N., teachers of the department, have extensive experience in the military, Colonel of the Reserve Medical Service Nurgaliev M.D., Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve Medical Service Zhairov S.K., Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve Medical Service Konarbekov S.K., Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve Abilov D.A., transfer their experience to students.
Specialists work with them: Reserve Major Saitmukayeva U.Zh., Reserve Ensign Tynsyzbayeva S.M.
The department trains military doctors in the following military accounting specialties:
— medical treatment for the ground troops;
— general dentistry;
— infectious diseases.
Specialized classes are equipped at the department: general military training; organization and tactics of the medical service; military toxicology, radiobiology, and medical protection against weapons of mass destruction; organization of providing troops with medical equipment and equipment; military field surgery; military field therapy; military hygiene and military epidemiology. The training camp with students is held on the basis of the Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan and military unit 64615 (Sanitary and Epidemiological Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
The selection of students to study at the Military Department is carried out in accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan №219 dated 05.04.2019. «On amendments to the Order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/24/2017. №375 «On approval of the Rules of military training under the Reserve Officers program» on the basis of a competition annually in the period from June 1 to June 20, selection in accordance with the recruitment plan approved by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
