Module - Introduction to scientific research

At the end of the module, the student will know and put into practice knowledge of the principles and methods of evidence-based medicine, academic writing, biostatistics and bioethics for the organization and conduct of scientific research: population, environmental, clinical, analytical; demonstrate responsibility for the result, take into account the ethical and legal support of research work.

Interviews and physical research methods in the practice of internal diseases

The elective discipline is destined for more complete training of the student in methods of direct examination of children and adults with the most common diseases of internal organs, correct interpretation of the obtained physical data with justification of the preliminary diagnosis and writing a medical history; conducting a physical examination according to the Calgary Cambridge model and the use of basic communication skills: collecting information, commenting, feedback, informing and planning.

Surgical accesses and nodes in surgery

Formation of students’ knowledge and practical skills in carrying out various operational accesses and techniques; study of dangers and complications during surgery, development of methods for their prevention; working out the basic rules of the technique of tying various types of knots, mastering the skills of forming knots with the help of tools and during endoscopic operations.

Fundamentals of modern methods of studying the genetics of children and adolescents

The elective discipline is designed to increase knowledge and skills in the application of modern methods of studying the genetics of children and adolescents, necessary for a future pediatrician to develop an individualized approach to the detection, treatment and prevention of hereditary diseases.

Vaccines and immunoprophylaxis

The elective discipline is designed to increase knowledge in modern vaccinology and covers the study of the basics of immunoprophylaxis of the infectious process; organization of vaccination, safety of immunization, vaccines of the National Immunization Schedule; to teach the skill of evidence-based fact-checking for successful interaction with the population on immunization issues, taking into account the ethical issues of organizing and conducting vaccination of different contingents of the population.

Epidemiological aspects and the system of prevention of infections associated with the provision of medical care

The formation of students’ knowledge and skills in the prevention and control of infections associated with the provision of medical care, including epidemiological surveillance and standard precautions aimed at improving the safety of patients and medical workers and improving the quality of medical care at the outpatient and inpatient levels, taking into account the main regulatory legal documents on epidemiological aspects and infection prevention.

Assessment of the health and physical development of children and adolescents and methods of their determination

The discipline covers the study of the state of health, physical development of children and adolescents, the leading criteria characterizing the processes of growth and development. The study of endogenous and environmental exogenous factors,
hygienic studies, wellness activities in organized children’s groups, acceleration processes and hardening principles.

Modern technologies for the care of premature babies

After studying the discipline, the student develops the competencies necessary to assess the condition of a newborn premature baby, to determine the degree of maturity, the ability to carry out neonatal care activities, interaction with the patient and his parents.

Tools of the universal progressive model of the patronage service in the practice of a pediatrician

The elective is devoted to the actual problems of the system of patronage services for pregnant women, families of newborns and young children. Upon completion of the discipline, the student will demonstrate relevant knowledge, practical skills and communication interactions with the patient and his/her representatives, teamwork skills in perinatology.

Intrauterine viral infections in children, methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention

After studying the discipline, the student forms theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the most common intrauterine viral infections in order to reduce mortality and disability from these diseases, the skill of working in a team.
